DEPARTMENT of Security Service, DSS, otherwise known as SSS has
uncovered a factory where Improvised Explosive Devices, IED, are
manufactured in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
The factory located in the house of a suspected Boko Haram member identified as Malam Abubakar Yola, is situated in Waurro Zabbe, a surburb of Yola.
Director of SSS in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Jayeoba, told newsmen, yesterday, that the discovery followed a tip-off, adding that the agency had been on the trail of the suspected Boko Haram member for close to two weeks.
He said: “When we stormed the suspect’s house, we saw are all these things being displayed here. We went to the house to arrest the suspect, but when we could not get him, a search was conducted in the compound and all these IEDs in their formative stages were discovered.”
He added that the raid was carried out in conjunction with the Army and other security agencies.
Jayeoba further said the SSS has intensified manhaunt for the fleeing Boko Haram member wandering what would have happened if the IEDs being manufactured were completed and exploded in the state.
Items displayed at the DSS headquarters included 30 carty electric detonator, 22 completed IEDs with hundreds of empty cans and fruit drinks, synthetic gum, 50kg of ammonium nitrate and 17 safety fuses.
Others are some batteries, Qlink motor cycle remote keys as well as electrical soldering irons. Also discovered in the house were AK 47 magazines, carbide switch light and electrical wires of different sizes among others.
