Kano State Police told SaharaReporters an ambush at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday by suspected members of Boko Haram at a checkpoint at Madobi,
Kano state. The attackers, in a Golf Volkswagon and 3 motorbikes,
launched the surprise attack on the security checkpoint in Madobi/ Sanni
Abacha Youth Centre in Panshekara, killing one.
Police regrouped and chased the attackers who abandoned their vehicles and escaped on foot. Police then searched the nearby Sani Abacha Youth Center in Pashekara and discovered bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) already planted there by the insurgents.
Commissioner of police in the state, Alhaji K Idris, said they called in a special bomb unit to carry out the controlled detonation of the IEDs whose explosive sounds panicked local area residents.
A search is underway for the attackers.
