THE four suspected persons who allegedly raped secondary school girls
travelling in a luxury bus from Enugu to Lagos State on Saturday, at
Ogbere axis in Ijebu area of Ogun State, were arrested by the men of
the state police command on Tuesday.
It will be recalled that a bus conveying 41 female students, marked XW 875 LSR, from Enugu to Lagos was stopped by the robbers at Ogbere area in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State on the Sagamu- Ore-Benin Expressway at about 11.30p.m on the fateful day and allegedly raped them.
The luxury bus said to belong to Ekenedili Chukwu Company was hired by a Catholic secondary school to convey the students to Lagos for the Easter celebrations.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune, said that the driver of the bus (name witheld) identified one of the suspects as one of the rapists who carried out the heinous crime.
Those arrested were Oni Olopari; Innocent Omule; Gbenga Adebayo and Samuel Luca.
Adejobi said that the driver identified Luca as one of the robbers who attacked the bus on that fateful night.
The suspected rapists, according to the statement, were arrested at Ijebu Ife, where some items which included one of the luxury bus chairs were recovered from them.
The statement said: “The Ogun State police command has arrested the driver of the luxury bus conveying students from Enugu, who were robbed on Saturday at Ogbere and four other suspects.
“The men were arrested at Ijebu-Ife in Ogun State, where some items were recovered, including the chairs contained in a broken down vehicle at the scene.”
Adejobi said investigation into the matter would continue, assuring that all involved in the act would be arrested.
