National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamaga Tukur, says for
the PDP to retain its dominance, it must aim for unity.
Tukur said when he
received Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda in his office in Abuja on
Sunday that the members of the PDP National Working Committee should
embark on reconciliation, reformation and rebuilding moves to make the
party great again.
On the issue of
reconciliation, he promised that he would recouncil various groups and
individuals with one another to bring back those who had left the party.
He said, “If we can
achieve these three important things, (reconciliation, reformation,
rebuildings) peace will return, security will come and investment will
come, so that we will be able to build our party, bring economic
development, help our country to really achieve the quality of life we
all aspire.”
Yuguda denied any form of crisis or rancour in the state PDP, insisting that “we are one family.
He said, “We have
enjoyed relative peace in our state and since 2009, we have never had a
major incidence of insecurity except media hype about attacks here and
there, which never existed.
“Politically, the entire
Bauchi State today is PDP. The opposition tried to create havoc during
the presidential and other elections but they have remained silent
because they have tried as much as possible to wrestle the mandate of
leadership from us, taking us to tribunal up to Supreme Court and we won
in all cases.
“The gap between me and
the Congress for Progressive Change candidate during the election was
almost 600,000. That is the kind of politics that we have, we are truly
PDP and PDP is really gaining a lot more ground.
“Our party in Bauchi
works as a family; we are a team, any person that is not in our team is
not with you that we assure you; and if he (the person) comes to you he
is trying to destroy us and by extension trying to destroy you, we speak
with one voice.”
He added, “We are here
not only to pay a courtesy visit on you and members of your contract
executive, but to wish you well and to pray for you and confirm to you
and assure you that our loyalty to you as our party chairman is
unalloyed.”
