President Goodluck Jonathan Monday gave a marching order to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Alhaji MD Abubakar, to go after the killers of Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde, the Private Principal Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomnole of Edo State.
Jonathan, while delivering an opening address at a workshop on achieving results in the power sector, told Oshiomhole said he had already directed the police to do all within its competence and power to arrest and bring to book the killers.
While opening discuss on “Unbundling Barriers to achieving Power Sector Vision” at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, he extended his condolences to Oshiomhole who was at the workshop.
He said he had also directed Abubakar to reopen investigations on all unresolved murders with a view to resolving them, saying it was not proper and did not engender confidence that murder cases were not resolved through investigation.
“I have directed that cases of murders must be properly investigated in this country at the end of the day, we must know what happened; not just in Edo state, but other challenges that are facing us on a daily basis,” he said.
Jonathan assured Oshiomhole that at the end of the investigation already started by Abubakar, the killers of Oyerinde would be arrested and brought to book as they would never go scot-free.
Olaitan was murdered in his house in Benin Edo state in the presence of his wife and children last Friday by four men who allegedly forced their way into his house.
