President Goodluck Jonathan, accompanied by the Governor of Lagos
State, Babatunde Fashola on Monday afternoon, visited the crash site of
the Dana Air plane, which went down at the Iju-Ishaga area of Alagbado
on Sunday killing all 153 passengers and crew on board.
Fashola, who described the incident as tragic, said the state would be
evacuating the residents of the street where the plane went down for
their ‘own safety’.
According to the governor the area could have become contaminated
following the crash, which is prompting the mandatory evacuation.
On Sunday the President had declared a three-day mourning period
following the air disaster, he also cancelled all his official
engagements scheduled for Monday and said that the national flag should
fly at half mast for the duration of the mourning period.
Jonathan and Fashola were accompanied by the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
