At least 25 out of the 35 political parties registered for Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State have withdrawn from the race.
They subsequently declared their support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Seriake Dickson.
The development came barely 12 hours to the election.
The candidates of the parties, in a statement they signed and made available to our correspondent in Yenagoa, said they took the decision in the interest of security, unity and peace of the state.
They said that after carefully weighing the prospect of unity in the state, they resolved to enter into an accord with Dickson and to rally support for him.
“We hereby endorse Dickson, the candidate of the PDP and direct our teeming and faithful supporters to vote massively for Dickson in the governorship election on Saturday.
“We have made this resolution in the interest of peace, progress and the development of the state having assessed the PDP governorship candidate (Henry Seriake Dickson) as credible and trustworthy to restore the lost glory of Bayelsa State and fast-track development to our land and people,” they said.
